If your bulk heads and hatches are sound you have "x" amount of displacement.
If any fail, why not have the space filled with displacement bags/bladders/jugs or ???? and have the about same amount of floatation and safety?
You can make or buy tapered floats or sto-floats that double as dry bags and fit the kayak shape well.
