: Last year my children and I built a Sea Flea, for my daughter, and at that
: time cut out the required parts for a second Sea Flea for my son. We have
: finished putting together the second kayak, and launched it last weekend.
: So, I guess that makes this the start of a "Sea Fleat".....

: Both kids had a blast zipping around and crashing into dad! I intentionally
: 'forgot' the outrigger at home, and it proved to be un-neccessary - the
: Sea Flea is quite stable, even in the hands of novice paddlers!
: This one was completed as cheap- .....er, frugally, as the first. Paddles and
: sprayskirt are also dad-made. I have posted several build pics in a thread
: at the link included....

Looks great again Kelly! Lots of fun. I wouldn't mind seeing the spray skirt you made. Could you post pics of that too?

We had Amelie's Sea Flea out on the Churchill River this past weekend (4 days). She paddled for a few minutes, then was towed behind the guillemot (as expected) the rest of the way to the island where we camped (across two small lakes and a portage around a large rapids). The outriggers reduced the chance of tipping out on the lake. My wife paddled the loaded guillemot, I paddled the canoe with my other daughter (not quite 3 years old), our lab dog, and the other 75% of the gear. We were camped with two other families and all of the kids had fun taking the Sea Flea out for tours. We were on the "shield" which means the area was rough granite rock, water, and trees. The kayak had a small amount of wear at the bow end of the keel (right at the tip of the keel). After a few trips I'll probably add a wear strip patch there. We didn't get the chance to try it without the outriggers. The rocks in the area slope smoothly but fairly steeply into the water meaning the water gets deep fast with no place where I could walk along with her in shallow water. I'll add a post to my blog with pictures and add a post here too in the coming weeks.
Cheers,
Bryan
