If you're using bead and cove the dowel and bell-headed screw system works well, you have to be careful not to tighten it down too much, you don't need a lot of pressure, just enough for it to set up. Depending on the curve you can do 2 or 3 strips at a time. It takes more time that's all. I work in a homeless shelter and I use the elastic ties that we hand out to intravenous drug users. Very strong, and they don't mark the wood.
