S&G: first coat on SOF

I'm just getting ready to coat a Yost Sea Raider (tinted Oil Based Zar Poly). Should I do the first saturation coat untinted? I built and coated a Morris/Cunningham boat two years ago and for the life of me I can't remember what I did for the first coat.
