I had a lot of apprehension before i reached that part of the build also.
It was a little hard to pre visualize how to make it work and come out nice.
I kind of did all the strips up to the edge of the chine and let them stand proud(above the chine)and then was able to lay strips alongside the proud strips and glue it in place and then sand it all into shape.
was'nt too bad at all...hard part was at the rear corners of the cockpit, had to fill a couple little gaps with splinters is all.
