The low deck Night Heron was my first build and is still my favourite boat. I'm 6'2", size 11 feet. It's done numerous multi-day camp trips and it's just returned from a one week trip to the Shoshone lake back country.

The NH has a very nice blend of manoeuvrability and tracking. I installed an angled bulkhead for a footrest and wear NRS rodeo socks when paddling. The high deck version offers more foot room.

Even though the NH is only 20" at the beam, it's a very stable boat and handles nicely. Performance in the wind is very good, and I added a skeg for emergency use when Nature kicks up its heels.

I had never paddled a Night Heron before building but I selected it due to its similarity to the Wilderness Systems Tempest series that I loved.
