Roll on TWO coats of epoxy. You will sand one coat off in milliseconds and be back where you started.

In your plans, I suggest you fill the weave, glass all seams and fill the weave on the seams, then rough sand with 60 grit. Then add TWO coats of epoxy. These coats will go on very smooth and give the boat the appearance of being varnished. To prep for varnishing you need only to sand with 120, then 220.

This method will ensure you do not cut into the glass when you prepare to varnish.
