Hi Rick,
You were me three years ago and I built a guillemot because I thought it was such a fabulous looking boat which it is. However after two years I realised that the boat wasn't what I wanted - I now view the guilly as a fun inshore boat but thats it. I posted on the board a year ago looking for ideas for a kayak that would be suitable for paddling offshore in Irish atlantic waters i.e. strong tracker and would be able to handle wind, swell, and other nasty atlantic stuff without skitting all over the shop.
I finally settled on Rob Macks North Star which is nearing completion and am hoping it will live up to it's reputation as a serious offshore boat. I'm not sure the longer guilly would be a great improvement tracking-wise but I'm sure others could comment better than me.
