The wet and miserable definitely doesn't help! I might be wrong, but I'd bet that somehow the side that has blushed got a bit damper from humidity / slight condensation at some point while drying. Eg was one side facing a wall and the other a window?
I've found very uneven blushing at times in the past too when humidity has been high.
