: I have recently completed my first kayak, a One Ocean Cape Ann Double. I'll
: post a couple of photos soon.
Congratulations...every completion is such a joy!
: Now I want to build another strip built, but
: a single this time so I can go out anytime. What would be a good yak
: choice for a beginner paddler (6 feet tall and 240 pounds). Being as I'm a
: beginner and a fair weather paddler, I am more interested in stability and
: an easy paddle. What would you all suggest.
I paddle a Northstar, one of Rob Mac's designs. I love it...and the Baidarka styling "always" get's a second look and compliment, car topped or in the water. I consider myself a beginner paddler, and I don't usually go out in dangerous conditions...I'm of average stature, and the Northstar is designed for the "bigger" paddler (I wanted the option of taking a lot of gear)...I guess I wouldn't be too concerned with stipulating a "beginner" boat because you'll grow into it as your skill improves.
Mr. Shade's Night Heron looks pretty cool too....and Ted Moores' designs are straitforward and pretty....Mark Rogers'(Superior Kayaks) has some excellent designs based on the Greenland styles....
