: When I am fiberglassing my kayak after squiging the epoxy (MAS) I get very
: tiny little dots what looks like air bubbles.
: Their are approximately 1/64, very tiny ones, you could see them only if you
: look very closely.
: Do you get anything like that?
: How do I fix that or what should I do not to get them.
: Is it something normal?
: It's not on the whole kayak just some parts of it.
: I have never seen the wooden strip kayak up close so I don't if anybody else
: has the same problem or if it is a problem at all.
: I really appreciate you taking your time to help me to find a solution or at
: least just writing me where I could find one if it really is a problem.
It's virtually impossible to apply epoxy resin without creating some bubbles.
A brush will trap air in the bristles and a bristle brush and a foam brush will create bubbles as the resin is dragged over the fiberglass cloth texture.
Likewise, a squeegee will create bubbles as it bumps over the rough glass surface.
And a foam roller will create bubbles as the roller pulls away from the glass surface and the foam is compressed and released.
Creating bubbles always happens and making them go away, that's the task.
You make them go away by;
Tipping off the surface with a dry foam brush, that is, lightly dragging the tip of the brush over the surface to brake the bubbles.
This can also be done with a heat gun, BUT be careful not to overheat the surface.
Keep your resin as thin as possible for as long as possible and the bubbles will have time to naturally dissipate.
See my "Transparent Lay-up" page for details.
All the best,
Rob
