In Response To: Material: is 2 layers of 8oz glass enough? (Brian Schulz)
: I'm finishing up a modified squirt boat where I cut off the ends and made new
: ends out of minicel, then glassed over it with 8oz and epoxy. I'm
: wondering how much glass I need on there, I currently have 2 layers of 8oz
: top and bottom, do I need more or can I paint it and go surfing!
We used to build ww kayaks, light and often, a typical layup was 36 ounces of cloth on hull and 27 ounces on the deck. That was 4 and 3 layers of 9 ounce. 26 to 28 pounds for a 4 meter kayak if I recall correctly. You could stop there and add with each fracture or beef it up now. Just my .02 cents. Your call.

Reg
