We usually put eye bolts at the ends of our kayaks for carrying handles or to lock up the boat. I use a special ratchet handle that one can purchase at most good hardware stores. It works by rotating the handle. To get the nut on, I put a piece of masking tape into the socket and then push the nut into it. The handle on the ratchet is likely not long enough, so I have made an extension for the handle.
