Someone on this site suggested using adhesive rollers you can buy at Home Depot greatly reduced the bubbles. They look like a 3/8" nap paint roller, but instead of the nap, it's 3/8" bristles.
I bought some and it sure seems like they'll work well, but I haven't tried them yet.
