Glass sheated inside outside. Had to build
: it of tropical hardwood, because good cedar is not available here in
: Thailand. It is a fine goodlooking boat but because of the material it is
: kind of heavy.

How heavy? Anyting under 35 Kilos (about 75-80 pounds) is pretty good.

How thick were the strips and how heavy was the glass?

Now I want to start building the Petrel and to reduce the
: weight, I wondered if I could ommit the sheating and still have enough
: stiffness.

It is no just the stiffness to consider, but the surface bonding which holds the strips together.

For lighter weight use thinner strips and lghter glass cloth.
