I've did that on my Whiptail. Navigate to the Whiptail .. Hatches page for a sequence of photos. I used Kajaksport hatches, not VCP. The Kajaksport rims are not as convenient to mount because they must be surface mounted (when the hatch is in place, there's no gap between the hatch edge and the lip on the rim). On the VCPs (as I understand) there's a gap between the hatch and the rim lip, allowing it to be mounted from underneath - a cleaner installation.
