: I've ripped wood for 6 strippers using only a circular saw and the small
: metal
: fence that came with the saw. The boards were screwed to a couple of
: picnic table benches placed end to end. I walked along the boards to rip
: the 1" X 10" and 1" X 12" lumber into 3/16" and
: 1/4" strips until it was about
: 1.5" wide. The remainder was used for SOF gunwales.
: I like this process as it allowed me to work alone, and cut only as many
: strips as I needed for that day's work. Plus, the saw is being used as it
: was designed to be used...Upright.
: The link shows stringers made for two SOF's using only a freehand jig saw.
: The attached pic shows the results.
: I normally use a circular saw, but wanted to see if the the jigsaw was a
: viable option. A description is at the bottom of the page / link.

I'm glad to hear from you, as your designs may be my next project this winter. After building two strip canoes in one year the wife is hinting that I could spend more time in the house, so a less time consuming project may be in order. I think I have enough material on hand for the frame, I might as well start cutting. I still haven't made up my mind on which model, Nikumi or Sea Tour, would be best for my 6'3" 240 lb frame.
