Perhaps some of us northerners are better off NOT paddling with gators. With my luck, I'd find a large rapid that drained into a gator-infested bayou filled with gators that hadn't had a bite to eat in a while. In this scenario, I probably didn't bring my big knife along so I'd have to bite them back in self-defence.
