: I was just kidding about the holster...but still good advice.
: I finished cutting the nylon today and got the kayak skinned and sewn. The
: soldering iron worked great, as did wiping off the tip with a wet rag.
: Thanks for the wonderful suggestions.
: Now on to a few other questions: I plan to use ZAR to paint the hull. When do
: I add the coloring to it? I purchased a small tube of yellow oil paint as
: suggested by Dave Gentry, and did not know whether to add the yellow color
: all at once, or in stages? What should I use to apply the paint to the
: nylon skin (brush, foam brush, epoxy type scraper)? And how many coats of
: paint do I need to properly seal the kayak?
: Guess that's all for now.
: Thanks again to all for the quick help and educational replies!

Hi Kyle - We're (currently) anchored where there's a wireless connection!
I'm no expert, either, but when I added paint to the varnish for my Yost Sea Rover, I used just a little bit with each coat. It doesn't take much paint to tint the varnish. Straight varnish, btw, will end up being a bit yellowish, anyway, though certainly not yellow. I applied mine with a mini-roller, and I called it good after 4 coats or so. The first coat soaked up the most, of course, and I suspect you could use any kind of brush to varnish the hull - nylon isn't too picky.
I suspect that you can find even more info about all of this by doing a search on the qajaqusa.org forum, too.
Sounds like you made short work of the skinning process! Can't wait to see some pics.

Dave
Hmmm . . . have you made a Greenland paddle yet?
