Hi Pedro,

Thanks for the response.

: 3.5mm (just a hair over 1/8") strips are pretty thin; after fairing and
: sanding they'll be even thinner. Unless you're going to use your boat in
: pretty calm conditions, I'm not sure I would go with a light weight cloth.

I think I'll go with 6oz, maybe in and out, to give it more strength. I plan on using the NH for general paddles, some day trips, etc. No plans to hit big rocks or do rough surf launches. I paddle in the bay a bit (fairly calm) or lakes and rivers.

The strips are thin - a little too thin in my opinion - but they were priced right - free! - and I got enough for 2 - 3 kayaks. I plan on building others (of course) and will buy thicker strips for an expedition boat. I'll be cutting the strips narrow and fairing very, very gently to ensure I don't thin them too much. The person I got them off has successfully built rowing sculls from the same strips, and another has built a sea kayak from them.

: Where are you in the building process?

Just cutting out the forms, they should go on the strongback this weekend (pending glassing of my racing boat) and then I'll start next week I hope.

Regards,
Darren
