I'd do that same measurement but in the boat, put boat on the lawn and get in with your measuring tape, if you put a piece of tape on the bottom about where you sit (off to one side) you can measure from there to where you think the bulkhead should be. Remember that you may not be the only one paddling it and some might be taller (unless you're like 7' tall ).
