The basic element that makes a bandsaw great is the backbone. If the frame is sturdy, like the old 14" cast iron Deltas, you can keep a lot of tension on the blade and get more control.
It's possible to take an old Delta and max out it's performance by installing high-end, percision blade guides. Putting this stuff on a saw with an inferior frame won't get you much.
So, when you look at a saw compare it's construction to the Delta. Those old Deltas had every element that made for a superior band saw. That's why they were so expensive.
