: Thanks - the inside is yellowish, so I suppose it is kevlar on the inside. I
: emailed CD and am waiting for response to confirm.
: The area I am thinking is inside the cockpit so very easy access. I have
: already extended my rack - now the cradles fall under each bulkhead and
: transport is not a problem. But I would like it a little shorter for other
: reasons. Before the cradles were pretty much where the soft spot is now,
: but I did not cause it - the previous owner did (my rack has cradles that
: without extension fall under that area not directly at it and the straps
: do not even touch there, so I could not have caused it- but he apparently
: caused the softness it by transporting the boat sideways there).
: Thanks - so a thin layer of E-glass? or Carbon? or Kevlar? What do you think
: is best to use for this purpose? I get your point about overstiffening
: this area and creating stress points, so I won't go thick, but I wonder
: what material I should use for the cloth...
I'd use 6 ounce E-glass, it'll wet out clear so only you'll know the patch is there. I think I'd double the cloth, with the first layer extending past the damaged area a couple inches then a smaller piece on top of that about the size of the problem area. Epoxy is up to you, but you won't need alot. West brand epoxy is available at West Marine, it's what I use, but others like their own choices too. I always recommend finding an epoxy you like and stick with it (pun intended).
