I've shipped across the border many times for a variety of reasons. Those who complain of brokerage fees are right. I have found the best way is to use a shipping outlet in the States, drive down and pick the stuff up there and bring it across myself. Costs, at least at the local Montana Shipping Outlet, are minimal. (Alternatively, I have hooked up with people on this board and had the stuff landed at their place and then picked it up there) Make sure all the paper is shipped that you will need to cross the border (receipts, packing slips). No duty on anything manufactured within the States -- just GST and, depending upon the province, PST. Depending upon where you live, filling up with gas while there will pay for the trip. If you keep any orders under $2,000, there generally is no question about you doing it for retail which simplifies things and makes it so you can use any crossing. It is true you can order from Canadian companies but there will always be that bit of doubt in your mind -- the only things we truly regret are the things we don't do -- and you will always wonder how your first choice would have compared.
