Duct tape often leaves a sticky residue on material, especially if you buy the "old fashioned" type ( Lee Valley ?) This can be cleaned off with sanding, solvent, etc... but its just one more thing.
If you go to a drama lighting rental shop, they usually carry a line of special yellow duct tape , which is just as strong , but designed to leave absolutely no residue. ( Who would want to have to clean up all the lighting and microphone floor wires with solvent after a show ? )
Another option is a line of cyanoacrylate gap filling super glue, with accelerator, to act as rivets to hold the panels together. If you need to adjust, or move a panel, a slice with a razor knife will free up the panel
