OK, fourth time lucky ? Apparently box-beam (without the hyphen) is
unacceptable...

I bought a Guillemot part-stripped, on an internal (2x4 ply box-beam)
strongback. I just wrapped it in plastic sheet, put it upside down on my
normal sea kayak trailer, so that the strongback rested on the structure,
and tied it down. Drove home c 70 miles, normal towing speeds (no more
than 70 mph) on a mix of winding country lanes, hilly A-roads, motorway
and exposed dual-carriageway across the pennines. No problem at all. Pity,
I didn't think to take any photos of that.

There's a picture of the trailer below (maybe it's as well the first post
failed to appear, since two minutes later, I took the firewall down for
maintenance and you wouldn't have been able to see the pic)-: It was just
a cheap ex-navy canoe trailer bought very cheaply off ebay (it cost less
than the part-stripped Guillemot, anyway). Needed a bit of TLC with a wire
brush and Hammerite paint, then I built the lighting gantry aft so that
long boats didn't overhang by a law-breaking amount (over 1 metre is agin
the rules here in the UK). Went to Arctic Norway and back (1500 miles each
way) with nine boats on, not loading the top deck (ferry much cheaper if
you stay under 2 metre height limit and use the car deck). Every sea kayak
owner needs a trailer, especially once you start building extra boats....

Oh yes, the strongback/hull was strapped to the same layer as the
strip-decked boat you can see in the pic.
