Strip: Opps, Missed a step, what to do now?

I've realized after I've sanded and faired the deck and hull of my micro-bootlegger, I didn't attach the bow and stern pieces per the instructions. I.E. Those bent ash strips on the ends.
The instructions mentioned to put those on before sanding and fairing, then cut them at the shear. Somehow I got the idea to attach them after fiber glassing is complete and the hull and deck are attached with out a cut at the shear, then fiberglass the pieces.
Do I continue as planned or actually (shudder the thought) follow the directions?
Opinions? Experience?
