Yes, that works great for occasional rust on a few tools, but after your tools, sockets, wrenches, drill bits, and wood planes all sit in saltwater for a couple of weeks, then rust for a couple more in 90% huidity, the vinegar is much faster. Many of my tools are just now being cleaned after the hurricane of Sept. 13th. 2 to 3 weeks soaking in toolboxes filled with salt water then 3 to 4 more weeks of rusting in the air really took them past the scotchbrite remedy. Most people are just throwing their tools away because of the damage to them. Sharp edges of chisels and planes are deeply pitted and will require major grinding then honing. A lot of my tools are still going to the trash/re-cycling because of the rust pitting. Here's a view of my bandsaw after the storm, motor is frozen, but not giving up on it quite yet. note: the wood on the table floated there.
