We have a solution called "Rust Cure" that works well for flat surfaces. That will be what I use on the band saw if I can get the motor unstuck. It turns the surface black and needs to be wiped or scraped off when it has done it's thing. I have used that on my table saw, and band saw in the past. When I'm done with that, I usually wax the surface for a little longer protection. Helps the work pieces slide too.
As bad as the Ike cleanup is, I'm just glad it didn't hit land 30 miles west of where it did or I wouldn't have anything to come back to..
