I've been plotting to build a short boat for a long time, and
I've finally got as far as a set of offsets for this:

As you can see, its got a lot of tight curves, although the hull is mostly
chined, the deck is more organic (not so obvious from the limited number of
lines). I'm not planning on realising this in ply like one of Mike Allen's
boats - it is going to be a stripper (if it can be done ...). I'm fairly
convinced that I can't get 6 mm cedar strips to make these curves without
steam, and perhaps not even then. Would it make sense to try using thinner
ash strips ? As it is a small boat, the weight isn't utterly critical (I
can pick up a chunky plastic W/W boat, so anything composite is going to be
easy), but I don't want to go over the top, as a light weight is one aim of
a composite play boat ... I'm sure narrower strips will work to get some of
the bending-in-two-directions lines, then fill in between the main lines
on the flatter facets with wider strips ?

I may laminate some very thin ash strips at right angles to the main stripping
direction inside the boat (I've done this to reinforce a deck on a sea boat).

Anyone tried an approach like this ? Any tips ?
