Okay, so it's not a kayak, but I just thought some of you might want to see another homebuilt S&G project. My son and I recently finished this 12' dinghy after about two years of off and on work. With the rig we cobbled together, the boat actually sails very well, and rows well, too. We have a motor, sort of. A friend gave us an old 7.5 HP Sears/Elgin, and if we can get it running... We found the plans on bateau.com, and it's their 'V12' design. The boat plans were okay, but the full-size patterns were pretty inaccurate, so we had to revert to the diminsions provided. This project was a lot more involved than the Yost Sea Pups we built a few years ago, but we enjoyed it. Calder is turning 16 and has just about outgrown his Sea Pup, so I suppose I'm gonna have to build myself a new kayak (probably a wood-frame Yost Sea Ranger) so he can steal my old one. He may be straying, though. I keep catching him looking at cars online.
I've attached a link to our dinghy-building album; it has three pages, which is not immediately obvious. The rudder was one of the most fun parts to build, so I thought I'd show it off here.
Cheers!
Steve
