: I also plan to use exclusively for boat building
: so I'm trying to figure out an optimal design, although I think it will be
: a moving target until I've built on them and see what I like and can
: improve upon.
: I've been to your site more than a few times and have read a lot of the trip
: reports. I especially like the one on Sandy Island as it is at the
: northern tip of Denman. Lots of great paddling around this area! My
: computer's wallpaper is from your site. Do you know if there is going to
: be a paddlefest in Ladysmith next spring? I'm hoping to get down to that
: if it's on again next year.
The Ladysmith paddlefest has been a yearly event for some time and is surely going to continue. I usually go as it is such a good opportunity to paddle lots of different boats.
And you're right, we're blessed to be in such a great place to paddle. You islanders are especially lucky as you can just get right out to it, but even I (in the lower mainland) can walk my kayak onto a ferry on a friday evening after work - get dropped off somewhere - then paddle for a few more hours and then at midnite or a few hours later, be smiling and looking out from some remote island shore. A lovely transition. Dark, night paddles with bioluminescence are something to behold.
As you already have standard horses, it might make some sense to go completely opposite and make a couple of narrow (say 24"), light, breakdown stands. Then you have both ends covered and with not much additional space used up. Plus down the line the small narrow light ones can be used for display, or setup, or easy temporary yak storage, or just throw in the car for setting up somewhere else.
