: expedition single, strip built with western red cedar.
Here's some pictures of my modified Great Auk. My procedure was: 1 cut out the hatch, 2 tape the hatch back in place with packing tape 3 cover the inside of the deck with self sticking clear shelf paper 4 lay the foam gasket spacer in place using double sided tape 5 wax it all down with a mold release 6 lay up 5 to 6 layers of glass ( I used 6 oz) over the spacer 7 put a thin layer of plastic sheet over that 8 pile sand on top to hold the glass and epoxy down 9 remove sand and flange 10 shape flange as needed 11 remove gasket spacer 12 remove gasket cover 13 epoxy in place 14 add gasket material.
note that the spacer should be about 1/8 inch shorter than the height of the gasket.
picture below is what it looks like just prior to laying on the glass.
When I did this (January 2006) I followed instructions from someone else. Sorry, but I can't find that link now.. This method was found on KBBB, thanks to whoever it was!!
Good luck!
Tony
