: Huertea cubensis -(Spanish Cedar) Anyone used this for gunwales and
: stringers?
: Finding vertical grain in pine or WRC is proving to be darn near impossible
: at 4 lumber suppliers.
It could certainly be used, it would tend to be a bit heavy. Btw, flat grain western pine as sold by Home Depot works fine, it too is a little heavy but does a nice enough job and is easy to find. I'd not wait forever between the time you cut that wood and bent it around the frames though as flat grain isn't really dimmensionally stable, but once bent it'll hold the shape fine. I've used it on the the Yost Sea Bee that I'm building as a test.
Finding clear long lengths of any wood anymore is difficult and expensive if you do find it. Scarfing it to length isn't difficult and works just fine.
