I have seen zero evidence of the stapler shooting any oil on the cedar. The photo shows the deck strips prior to sanding or washing, with no oil evidence. I did add a little of the supplied oil in the beginning, but only added very small amounts thereafter -- usually just a drop. I did notice a little oil film around the trigger, but this was a non-issue. Maybe I should try turning the air pressure back down a little.

It's good that you mentioned this, as it's easy to add too much oil to a tool to satisfy the manufacturer's recommendations. Their recommendations are most likely based on industrial use. I would say that my stapler has seen light hobby use.

Senco makes a "Fine Wire Stapler", and under features and benefits they state: "rear exhaust keeps oil off fabric". I can only assume that the Porter Cable works similarly.
