I don't have your credentials, but fwiw - I built a S&G CLC Chesapeake 17 5 years ago. Freshwater, fairly rough conditions - but no rough shore landings (yet). Haven't had a bit of trouble. That said, I think John has it right; the fiberglass in/out seems smart, and how I'd anticipate building any other boats. don't think there'll be a significant weight penalty, either.
