Kits will require a lot of 'tool' use too. I recommend getting Nick's book, "The Strip-Built Sea Kayak". Read it cover to cover and don't worry if you don't understand some of the terms, they will become apparent in the second or third read. After that, you will have a very good idea of your next move.
Mine was to build a Guillemot from the information in the book, but yours may be entirely different..
