: Hi - I am a newbie and have been lurking for a couple of months ...
: I will be building a stitch & glue kayak with my 13 yo son this Spring.
: We are both very excited to get started and are in the middle of the
: planning process. Can anyone give us some advice as to how wide our work
: table should be? We don't want a table that is too narrow but don't want
: to lean over too much either.
: We were thinking of perhaps a 3 feet wide table made of 2 sheets of plywood
: or MDF on 3 saw horses. Any suggestions?
: Thanks and Happy Holidays to ALL!
: Howard
There is another way. I've built a pair of 1' by 8' table tops with melmine covered particle board (Menards sells it as shelving material) with 2x4 supports under it and cross braced also with 2x4's, the framework all glued together to keep it stable then screwed and glued to the top. Menards btw sells this material up to about 2' wide.
These can be used, supported on saw horses as a building table, can also be used to extend a table/band saw table for ripping long lengths (the melmine surface is slippery enough to allow the wood to easily slide) as well as making a nice epoxy resistant table for scarfing and when not in use stand up together in a very small space.
Took quite a few versions to get to this point .
