Today I finally took the Iggy to the beach.
A freind and I wanted to take a last paddle of 2008, and the weather was great. Temperature just around freezing, almost no wind. The sun looked through the clouds.
I outfitted her with a retractable skeg (Björn Thomasson design), and that was a good idea. Not that she cant be paddled without a skeg, but with the skeg down she tracks extremely well.
We went for about 12 km. and back at the launchsite I took her through a couple of sweep and butterfly rolls. No problems at all. I even felt confident enough to try a (to me) new roll, I stalled, crashed and returned to the surface sweepstyle, but the fact that I went for it just shows how much confidence I have in this kayak.
I love this kayak. She performs perfectly as a dayboat (with the skeg), and rolls like a dream. Now I just cant wait for march to arrive, when Ill be taking a few lessons, to master the handroll
