While I think the dying part would be do-able, it may lead to problems during or after skinning. I have personally had poor experience with pre-died cloth intended for things other than SOF kayaks, but none of those instances involved nylon or dying the fabric myself. I know that a couple of folks over at qajaqusa tried to tie-die a kayak skin before sewing onto a kayak frame, but I cannot recall the outcome.
