Perhaps you're right.

Here's an interesting site I finally found on the ofuro style tubs.

I wonder how northern white cedar would work for this style tub.

You've worked with Alaskan Yellow cedar. How does that compare with
northern white cedar?

When I visited George Nakashima's shop in New Hope, PA, his son-in-law
told me George made his shoji screens from Alaskan Yellow cedar.That it
was a very strong close grained wood.
