You could also take the wood bulkhead and surround it with a foam strip then you'd have a strong watertight bulkhead the can't cause a hard spot. With a cored hull I don't think you have anything to worry about in the first place, it's pretty stiff and won't easily deflect. That theory was based on single skin glass construction that's fairly flexible.
