: Thanks for the response Bill. My wife & I started paddling 3 years ago.
: We're teachers and have the summers off, and we paddle 20 to 30 miles a
: week during the summer. We started with Dagger, Specters, 15.5 x 24".
: Grew out of these in about a month or two. We both got QCC 700x's 18' x
: 21" Didn't like these boats. The wife had trouble turning hers in
: windy conditions, cause they had such a long water line, and my legs would
: constantly go to sleep in mine. I felt like a sardine in a can. It was
: just too small for me. The were really nice fast boats though.
: The wife paddles an Impex, Currituck and she just loves it. It's a semi
: Greenland style boat in that it has a huge amount of rocker to it, but man
: does she have fun playing with that in the waves. I'm paddling a Current
: Designs, Titan Low Volume. It's has lots of room inside and it's great for
: hauling camping gear to the Apostle Islands. It is kind of a barge though.
: I'm jealous of my wife being able to scoot around in her Curritcuk in the
: waves. I would like someting a little more playful yet have storage room,
: but not near the storage I have with the Titan. I'd like a boat with a
: 13" to 14" front coming depth to hull. I'm 58 and the legs need
: some room to stretch out once in a while. Also need a cockpit of at least
: 33" x 18", I just don't bend like I use to. I like the 18' boat
: for Lake Superior and I like a 23" beam. My Center of gravity seems
: to be higher than most. I'm 5' 10", but I only have an inseam of 29
: to 30" with my stubby little legs. I guess a lot of my height is made
: up with a longer torso that's making my center of gravity higher , and
: thus the 23" beam needed to feel comfy in a boat.
: I hope this additional info will help.
: Paul
Hi Paul,
Might look at Laughing Loon's Disko Bay or for that matter one of his Baidarkas. The DB is only 17' and 21" wide but the beam can be increased a little without problems, no problem with big water in that boat.
