Paul, Charlie's comment is right on, it gets tricky unless you've already glassed the underside of the deck, which adds stiffness before your start cutting for the inlays. I think it depends on your woodworking experience, bravery, and time available. :-)
There are alternatives, as well. Some folks have had success just inlaying copper wire in flowing designs, and others have done "onlay" rather than "inlay". Because it all gets 'glassed over, visually & tactilly there is no difference between the two techniques.
