#6 1 1/4" & 1 1/2" screws, yes. I don't know where I got those, but I did just buy some more brass screws at either Lowes or HD. I suspect SS screws would work just fine, too - as would wooden pegs and/or lashing. Like Tom says, it's the epoxy and fillets that are doing most of the work.
FYI, I drilled pilot holes and countersunk the screw heads.
