Without seeing the router and table, we can only make assumptions. Most manufactured router tables have a plate insert that is usually around 1/4" thick or less. Does yours have that? I don't own a router table but have a table top that is 3/4" thick that I mount my router when I want to use it on a table. I just raised my bit fully extended and I did back out the bit in the collet and I was able to mill cove and bead using normal Grizzly bits. My router is a old Craftsman - nothing special.
Maybe you have the bit in too deep in the router? what's your distance between the router base and the table top?
