When I built my first boat I was going to "spare no expense". I bought stainless screws and epoxy. It didn't take long to realize that it wasn't going to work. I went to lashing, and it didn't take long to realize its superiority.

I am fabricating the pieces for a baidarka now. When building the model for it, I was struck by the power of the redundancy in its innate design. So much of this boat can fail and it will not affect its function or safety.
