Roy my method usually started with planing a 4 degree bevel the entire strip. I could plane the entire strip with usually three passes walking along the a 12 foot strip with a sharp jack plane. Then lay the strip against the last strip, mark the strip where the next slight angle started and plain it in my jig. Then the next and finished with the finger plane. I guess it is what works for you. This was faster and more accurate for me this way.
