It's actually very easy - just keep trying the strip and planing a bit more
where it is needed. It helps to anticipate, by bevelling the top edge of
one strip to reduce the bevelling required on the next - and this leaves
less steps on the finished surface to plane/sand off. I did rolling bevels
from the first because cutting cove and bead sounded awfully hard to do ...
and I still don't have the tools to do that, but a block plane does the
rolling bevels just fine. Both the boats here built with rolling bevels -
if you do the hull first you will have had loads of practice before you
get to the deck where the results will be more visible and the curves
tighter. If you have a really tight curve (like the first two strips on the
deck of Geyrfugl) it may help to use narrower strips, and do short sections
(I think I did those bits of deck with three or four short strips along
above the sheer). On Piqqalujamik takujumavunga, you can see that the
change in deck material meant that I was always working with fairly
short strips, although the curvature here was a bit less, since I used a
half-elliptical deck cross section - only the purpleheart was hard work
just towards the stern particularly... The two book-matched strips that
form the deck ridge on Geyrfugl's pitched deck would have been harder and
looked worse with cove and bead, but was very easy indeed using a bevel,
although this one wasn't a rolling one...
