Epoxy: Fill coat application (currently too much foam)

I'm using the thin plastic scraper/squeegee approach I did for the fibreglassing but as I spread it across the bumpy surface I'm getting loads of foam.

Should I use a brush or roller? Or just apply heavier? I could try but rather than make a mess if anyone has a strong opinion before I start the next round could they let me know.
